Honoring a Sister's Legacy

August 9, 2012 marks a significant moment for the Colon Cancer Coalition / Get Your Rear in Gear. This date marks ten years since Susie Lindquist Mjelde passed away from colon cancer; the genesis of "Get Your Rear in Gear." Join us in honoring Susie and other colon cancer warriors by placing a luminary on your doorstep at twilight on August 9.

You are a part of Susie's Legacy

In 2005, Kristin Lindquist Tabor hosted the first Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Run/Walk around a lake in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her goal was to raise the awareness of colon cancer and educate and encourage the public to know their bodies and be advocates for their own health so that others would not have to suffer they way her family had.

By the end of 2012, 10 years after Susie's passing, and seven years after the first race, the Colon Cancer Coalition / Get Your Rear in Gear will have made great strides toward this goal by:

• Hosting 125 5K events in 48 cities across the country.
• Touching over 150,000 participants, volunteers and spectators, plus countless donors and community members.
• Giving over $1.5 million back into local communities for colon cancer education and screening initiatives.
• Being a part of countless other benefits and other active living events.

Illuminate the Twilight on August 9

Join us as the sun sets on Thursday, August 9, and honor the colon cancer warrior in your life with a luminary (or luminaries) displayed on your doorstep.
