

The Alexandria Get Your Rear in Gear 5K and Tony Snow Mile For A Miracle were run on a cool fall morning at Fort Hunt Park. Participants stayed warm by gathering around the fireplace in the park shelter and by the the feeling of excitement and anticipation in the air. Jay McConville, the Local Event Director for the race welcomed participants and thanked them for being a part of this second year event.
The Tony Snow Mile For A Miracle, run in memory of former White House press secretary Tony Snow, had runners making a loop of Fort Hunt Park with a nice hill thrown in for good measure. The overall winner of the 1 mile run was Brian Lutz with a time of 5:56:01. Top female finisher was Juliette Lash who ran the race in 9:53:24.
The 5K run and walk winded people through the park and then through the lovely Waynewood neighborhood and past the home of the Snow Family. The 5K winner was Chris Pelliccia with a time of 17:44:45. Top female finisher was Sharon Frobel in a time of 21:34:14.
Following the race, awards were presented to the top finishers and also the teams which were formed to participate on race day. Top fundraising team was Run for your Rear! led by team captain Neha Patel. The Largest Team award was presented to PerformTech, who fielded well over 50 walkers and runners and was a sponsor of the event. Top individual fundraiser went to Anne Marie Cordingly who came all the way from San Francisco, CA to honor a friend who is battling colon cancer and raised over $6,000...way to go Anne Marie. The most creative team was Team Tara, who donned pageant like sashes and crowns for the walk.
While final totals are not yet in, estimated funds raised will be over $17,000. Thanks to all the local planning committee members and Jay and Sue McConville for another great race in Alexandria.
